5 Fall Crafts and Activities For Little Boys
It’s that time of year again. Fall is a very popular time for many activities and crafts which are perfect for the little ones. From leaf painting to pumpkin carving, there are tons of great things you can do with your little guys this fall!
I always see fall crafts or activities geared more towards little girls instead of boys or better both. Today we are going to create a few crafts and activities that are geared towards boys but girls could surely do them too.
Why do I say that? As a mom to five, I know both can because I have 2 girls and 3 boys. The only problem with making bracelets, necklaces, and tutus is not all little boys can wear them and many won’t even attempt it.
The following are the top 5 Fall crafts and activities for boys.
1) leaf rubbing 2) jumping in a pile of leaves 3) Nature walk 4) painting rocks 5) Make a dirt road
Fall Crafts and Activities for Boys
The main idea is to get your boys outside and moving. I feel like this is always a good plan but much easier said than done with technology these days. One thing we like to do as a family (not usually planned out and I’m sure after winter we will be over it) is make a pile of leaves and jump in them.
1. Trace a Leaf – This is an easy craft but it takes finding a leaf to trace over, which can be tricky if you live in the desert. You only need three things, a leaf, a crayon and a piece of construction paper. Have your child put the leaf under the paper and rub the crayon over the top of the paper. Voila.
- Leaf rubbing – This is an easy fall craft for kids. All you need is paper and leaves! The leaves create a beautiful color splash on your paper when you rub them with graphite or charcoal.
- Paint a leaf – All you need is a leaf and some paint! The leaves create a beautiful color splash on your paper when you add paint over them.
- Find leaves – Find and identify different types of leaves. Have your child draw the leaf (or paint it) and identify what kind of tree or plant they are from.
2. Jumping in a Pile of Leaves– If you have a tree in your yard now is the time to have some fun and enlist some worker bees. Have your child go out and rake a pile of leaves and then tell them to run and jump into it. Make sure to have your camera ready because these will be some amazing Fall shots. Don’t have any trees? Have them be a kind neighbor and ask someone down the street if they can rake their leaves into their own yard.
- Scavenger hunt in the leaves – Just a little twist. Take something small and soft like a stuffed animal, gloves, beanie and bury them for your kids to find.
3. Nature walk– Go out on a nature walk and look at all that Mother Nature is sharing with you. To add a bit of creativity have your child take a notebook with and either draw, write or collect items for their book that they can remember this trip. If they are older see if they can identify leaves, paw prints, what type of plant something is, etc.
- Prayer Walk – Go on an intentional walk and pray about people and things you see.
- Bug in a jar – Want to do a nature walk but can’t find anything? Look for bugs that are outside. You never know what you’ll find! Even ones you can’t identify.
4. Painting rocks– Go out and grab a handful of rocks, some newspaper, paints, a paintbrush and let your child have fun. Lay the newspaper out so they don’t get the paint everywhere and just let them have fun painting their own creations. Do not forget to ask them what they are painting as they are doing it. Be shocked, be amazed, above all encourage them to have fun. While you have the paint out you may want to let them try making a fall tree painting.
- Kindness rocks – Have your kids paint the rocks with positive sayings on them. Once they are dry place them throughout your town.
5. Make a dirt road– Boys (AND GIRLS) love to play in the dirt and many love to play with cars and trucks. Take them outside and have them make little roads. If you don’t have dirt (those in the desert have a ton of it) take some chalk and let them draw roads to drive on. Just above all let them imagine life, the world in which they create and sit back and watch as they learn to have fun.

What fall activities/crafts does your child do?
Spending time outdoors with your child is always a good idea, but it’s especially important during the fall. The leaves will be changing colors and falling from trees onto the ground, so you’ll want to take advantage of this natural opportunity for some fun outdoor activities.
One activity that we recommend is the leaf rubbings because even if they’re not perfect in the end, kids are sure to have tons of fun! You can also go on nature walks or paint rocks together – whatever sounds most exciting to both you and your little guy. Get out there while these beautiful days last!
Enjoy the Fall!
