Thanksgiving Day Celebrations are only a few short weeks away. Are you ready? I have a few fun Thanksgiving books for your kids to read and enjoy the holiday with your kids. Books about silly rhymes, the history of Thanksgiving Day, and some reflection books on what they should be thankful for.
Why Teach Your Children about Thanksgiving
I’m not suggesting we should all go educate about Pilgrims and Indians. Rather, I’m referring to the importance of teaching our children to be thankful. What it means to have “Thanksgiving”? Not just about gathering around the table with tons of food and being happy we are together and then going to watch the parade.
Thankfulness and gratitude are great lessons that can be taught on Thanksgiving by showing examples of why they are thankful. Make sure as you are gathered around the table on Thanksgiving you go around the table and have each person give one reason why they are thankful. Just one thing from that year, it could be that they are thankful for a teacher they got, seeing a family member, someone purchased a house or got a new job, etc. This will help children understand it more if you talk with them about thanksgiving.
How Do I teach My Child Thanksgiving?
You teach your child to have Thanksgiving by example, but you can also use crafts and videos to help little ones understand more. (Remember not everyone learns the same way.) They’d probably love it even more if you got involved. Try to find some fun Thanksgiving Day Crafts for Kids, or even make a few Gratitude Journals for kids and some of your own so they can see how you do it. Making a dish for this special day will also help build on their memories of Thanksgiving and hopefully implement them into the future with their kids.
