21 Simple Things You Can Do To Help Someone With Diabetes Review & Givaway
This week has been all about diabetes, first I asked each of you about your own experiences with the sometimes deadly disease
and then I followed it up with an interview with author, Cherie Burbach. Why? Cherie sent me a copy of her newest book, “21 Simple Things You Can Do To Help Someone With Diabetesto review and offer up for a giveaway if I liked it. I want to state that not only did I like the book but I recommend it to anyone that might know someone that has diabetes. I also recommend those that have diabetes to read it, as I know many like to read about other people’s experience with something.
21 Simple Things You Can Do To Help Someone With Diabetes will give you tips on learning more about the way a diabetic might feel, things they deal with and the rumors that aren’t always true. The book is easy to read and makes you feel like she’s right there in front of you telling the story herself, it isn’t full of technical jargon that you don’t understand. Cherie starts immediately telling readers that the book is there to help them understand diabetes more. Much of Cherie’s book is based on her own knowledge, which to me means a lot more than going and finding information from a doctors office. Cherie talks about instances that have occurred in her own life and how she dealt with each one.
Example: Cherie had a co-worker that knew she had diabetes, when she went to eat at an event the co-worker was watching what Cherie was eating and made the comment she should be more careful with what she took in. Never once had the co-worker asked her about how Cherie’s blood sugars had been or any of that.
Cherie will talk about blood sugar levels and when to watch out for an attack, how insulin is not a cure all, and much more. I always thought blood sugar was the lack of sugar but it can actually dip up or down depending on what is going on in life, such as stress/exercise and being sick. My dad was actually very ill right before we found out he had diabetes so this actually makes more sense to me. She will teach you how not to treat someone with diabetes and other ways you can help them. By helping she doesn’t mean to jump down their throat the minute they have a piece of candy, but to support them. If you know someone with diabetes or are a diabetic yourself read this book and possibly share it with someone you know.
