Gigi & Nate: About Loss and Friendship

Disclosure: Many thanks to Roadside Attractions for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

Gigi and Nate is a true story made into a movie, I seem to love these types of movies compared to just made-up stories. Due to all our family changes and the next child moving off to college this seemed like the perfect movie to watch for the boys and I. (Very emotional movie, so be prepared)

Gigi & Nate is a story of hope, of overcoming the obstacles life throws at us (and boy can it), reveling in the art of faith and perseverance. This encouraging and inspirational film is based on a true story!

I always wanted to raise a monkey or to be a zoologist, I’ve had such a love for monkeys that when this one came across my email I just had to watch it. But there was more that tore at my heart about this movie, this guy (Nate) made me think of myself as a teenager and how I did some crazy stuff and never thought of the consequences, not until after I had kids. I’m sure some of you can relate.

Our Thoughts on Gigi & Nate

Nate is super depressed, eventually suicidal, and honestly who can blame him, he was living the same day over and over and trapped in a body that wasn’t doing what he wanted. He becomes quadriplegic after jumping off a cliff into deep water. TAfter a suicide attempt, this is when his family makes sure to get him his service animal.

Gigi was scared, a rescue animal, and then moved in with a family she didn’t know yet. It takes both of them to lose something and figure out who they are and what they need from one another. For me it was watching them slowly bond, just like in friendships not always is it quick, sometimes it takes time, it takes trust. The moment she goes to help him and give him that hug…it was so sweet. But as always what happens when too many hear about something that isn’t normal, someone tries to destroy it.

The boys and I definitely loved this movie. Nicoli says to be ready to cry because he did, a lot. This is definitely one many can relate to when it comes to sibling relationships and makes you think about yours and what would happen. Nicoli got really worried about his sister going swimming though. The topic of meningitis came up with Little A and me, so it opened up that conversation too.

A little about Gigi & Nate

Gigi & Nate hits theaters starting September 2nd! This is a great family movie!

Gigi & Nate is the story of Nate Gibson, a young man whose life is turned upside down after he suffers a near-fatal illness and is left quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi – a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. Although she is trained to assist Nate with his basic needs, Gigi helps Nate find what he needs most of all: hope.

“I want the audience to feel moved, I want them to feel energized,” he says. “I want them to feel everything I felt when I read the script for the first time. It’s a rollercoaster on four wheels. It’s about family and the difficulties of losing some-
thing you love.” -Charlie Rowe (Nate in GIGI & NATE)
