Failure or Success? My Bring Your Child to Work Day
I know ya’ll are curious, waiting for me to announce how things went with my speech (yeah right, you just want to know if I peed my pants) or how things went with Bring Your Child to work day. (haha, ya wondering if he watched t.v. all day right?)
The Speech-
Ya’ll knew how nervous I was and I learned a lot from the group I got to speak in front of. My son lied to me though, I didn’t have to speak in front of 6000 kids, only two rooms of 20. He laughed when I corrected him later on. Little Punk, lol.
I carried everything in and set up. For those of you that have NEVER done this, try to get there a few minutes prior depending on how much you need to bring. Thankfully the school agreed that I could bring my two little ones, which meant bringing in:
laptop
diaper bag
baby seat (more like a rocking chair)
two kids (both very well-behaved)
Bag of material (mine was a ton of books, magazines, notebooks, writer’s market, papers, pens, etc)
Once I set up I looked up at my husband (we were sharing the same room, he went first and third) and he smiled, “You’ll do fine.” I just shook my head thinking, I have to talk for 25 minutes, I’ll never make it. Guess what? I did, in fact I got so into talking about it I could’ve went on. I had to actually stop talking and quickly thank them for coming. lol. I DID IT! Oh and I didn’t pee my pants! I told the kids how I told my blogging friends I was scared of peeing my pants, which of course got lots of laughs. Then I told them how I couldn’t picture them with no clothes on because that was just GROSS but I was picturing them morphing into babies with the heads they currently had. This had the class busting out laughing some more. So all in all I did good. Even got a few that want to be writers. I did give them a bit of work and told them if they actually did it I’ll be posting it here. Not really sure if they will since I haven’t seen any emails, but we’ll see.
Bring Your Child to Work Day:
I know ya’ll are just wondering about this, whether or not I passed or failed. See what he thinks type of thing right. So here goes….
He spent the first half of the day 7a.m-lunch (noon) with his dad, according to him all dad does is pass out work and play online. lol. Don’t ya just love the way the kids see things?
Once home his assignment was (remember I’m a SAHM as well as freelance writer) so he had to put the load of wash into the dryer and a load into the washer. He found this amusing (at first), then he got lunch detail. ie he made cheese hot dogs for everyone and made sure his sister had a spot to sit. Seemed all good, while he waited he checked his gagglenet account. (his email at school) He loved this, I told him every morning I check all email, respond to at least three. He wrote his dad, who happened to be upstairs and wrote a blog entry on his school blog.
Then it became serious, I pulled up a few search pages and showed him how to search for things. He decided to stick with wikipedia (sp), he was going to write all about yo yos for his yo yo blog. Yes, he has a blog, it’s “Yo-YoBlogging.” Don’t forget to drop by and leave him a message.
His assignment for his blog was to research and write three entries. He did this, he learned all about how to do it and how to use spell check. He loved it! He also loved seeing that someone other than a family member had previously posted on his account. He’ll be so stoked today when he finds out more have commented. So please comment on it. He’s very encouraged and up until this year hated to read or write, so I think this’ll be a great way to get him into it. We’ll continue this throughout the summer, actually last night he asked if he could do a blog a night.
While doing his blog he had to finish his laundry, clean the bathroom (not much since I did most of it in the morning), clean the living room three times, and another load of laundry. By the end of the night he was pooped.
“Mom, you’re not a Homemom. (referring to my site) You are a work-at-home-mom.” I smiled and laughed at him. “You are mom, all you do is work-work-work, you don’t have time to watch t.v. because you work online, clean house, change Little A and play outside with BabyGirl.”
Yes people he realized I don’t just sit on the couch and watch t.v. all day like he first thought. Late last night, after he’d made dinner and helped clean the living room some more (he sees now when they are all home they mess it up) he came up to me, kissed me on the cheek and said thank you.
I think my day was a ….SUCCESS!
