A Step by Step Guide to Choosing the Perfect Sofa for Your Family

If you’re searching for a new sofa, it isn’t uncommon to feel out of your depth. There are a million and one sofa stores, all with vast collections of sofas – all different sizes, shapes, colours, and materials. How are you supposed to choose?! This is a problem that I was once faced with, and to make it even worse, I’m already extremely indecisive. Here’s how I narrowed down my choices to make the best decision for my family and home:

Do Your Measurements

The first thing you should do, is measure the area you want your new sofa to go. It’s important that you get these right, as a few centimetres off can mean your new sofa doesn’t even fit in your living room! You can then rule out sofas that are too small and too big. You need to find the perfect fit in order to make the right decision, so don’t cut corners at this point!

Consider the Needs of Your Family

Do you and your family sit downstairs in an evening and watch TV/read together? Or are the kids always out and it’s just you and your spouse relaxing? Either way, you’ll need to make a different choice. A sofa that the whole family will use frequently should be big enough to fit everybody on, and nice and soft/comfortable. The less people that use the sofa, the more you can afford to choose a fancy style/pattern to sacrifice comfort. It totally depends on what you want in a sofa!

Does it Fit in With the Decor/Theme?

Does the sofa fit in with your living room as a whole? If you have a running theme or something continuous with the decor, make sure the sofa carries this on so it looks right at home.

Is the Material Durable and Versatile?

The material you choose should be durable and versatile, otherwise you could find yourself buying another new one in no time at all. If you have pets that hang around the furniture, your sofa will ideally be a wipe clean material. The more versatile the design, the longer it’ll last too.

Does it Match Your Personality?

A funky sofa is the perfect way to show off your personality and bring the room to life. Many people choose to create focal points using their sofa, so decide if you’d like your sofa to be a focal point in the room. Make Sure You All Agree

Does everybody like the sofa? Of course the decision is down to the adults to a certain extent, but if all the kids really hate it perhaps you should hear them out and take their opinion into account – they can be a great help you know!
