What is a sensory bin?

A sensory bin is a learning and play tool that has been around for quite some time. It’s a great thing to do with children of all ages, and the contents may be customized to match their unique interests and abilities.

A sensory bin is a container used to contain the stimuli. A simple example is an old ice cream tub. However, there are several different methods to create a sensory bin or table. An indoor plastic storage box with lid may be used, or you may bring it outside with a tarp beneath to keep surfaces from getting wet.

A sensory bin can be as simple as dumping a bunch of rice in a large plastic bowl and adding some measuring cups or bowls to play with. You can use cookie cutters to make shapes out of the rice, add some spoons for scooping, etc. The idea is to make it fun and let them explore!

You may also use water beads instead of rice, which are becoming more popular because they resist moisture and are simpler to clean up. Shaving cream, rice or beans, dry pasta shells, crayons, pom poms, and other sensory items are all possible options.

There are numerous methods to use a sensory bin, from spraying it with a spray bottle containing a tiny amount of soap and water to squirting other substances through an icing decorator.

With this bin, children may engage in hours of learning and fun! Try these Valentine’s Day Sensory bins!
