There are many benefits from getting a hug or giving a hug. If you are afraid of something sometimes it just takes that physical touch to calm you down or make you feel better. It may also help someone to not feel lonely, depressed, anxious, etc. Make sure if you are able to this year reach out and give someone a hug.
- Boosts your Heart Health– getting a hug from a loved one brings joy and happiness. It releases endorphins that spread through your body.

I was alive!

- Mental Health– By not getting a hug or any type of human contact can lead to depression, anxiety, loneliness, and even suicide. People need to feel a connection, they need human contact.
- Helps build your immunity up.
What’s Your Hug Saying?
Did you know that your hug could be saying something about you? Typically I will hug a loved one or a friend is one where you lean in front the front. An intimate hug is one where ya’ll are wrapped like around the waist, a hug from the side is another when I’m not sure where we stand but I want them to know it’ll be okay.
Hugging in Scripture
“Greet one another with a holy kiss.” – 2 Corinthians 13:12
These are just a few times “a Holy Kiss” is mentioned in the bible: Romans 16:16, 1 Corinthians 16:20, 2 Corinthians 13:12 and 1 Thessallonians 5:26. What does a “Holy Kiss” mean to you? I don’t believe he is saying lip lock here, but I do believe he is saying to greet one another warmly, with a hug or a handshake. To show affection.
“And there was much weeping on the part of all; they embraced Paul and kissed him” – Acts 20:37
To me, this just shows that they knew Paul needed to have that love, that they wanted to show him how much they cared for him.
“And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” – Luke 15:20
Many of us have felt this very thing, the moment we see a loved one this is the first thing we want to do. How many of you have ever waited to see someone and the first chance you finally do after a long time you just have to run up and embrace them. That’s what our world is missing right now.
So many individuals need to feel that love and those of us that as our love language need to give it. For now, we have a very small remedy on how you can share God’s love with your neighbors or loved ones without ever touching them.
Teaching Huggable Moments to Your Kids
Right now would be the perfect opportunity to introduce your children to what I call “Huggable Moments.” What is this? Oh, thanks for asking. These are those really proud moments you have towards them because they do something that makes your heart go boom-boom really loud. Show them that they can do acts of kindness towards others which will give them that really warm feeling in their heart.
Random Acts of Hugs
- Have them make small Valentine Cards that they make and drop them off at random businesses. No one ever thinks about them on this special day.
- Using sidewalk chalk have them write sweet messages for those random strangers to see. Last year we did this and left chalk for others to do the same.
- Leave a nice message on paper in your window for people to see as they walk or drive by. Tell them they are loved or you are sending them a hug.
- Have them paint a rock and leave them around your community with little messages on them. We’ve found a few in the past year of living here and it has always put a smile on our faces.
- Call or facetime someone you know needs to hear a kind word. If they can’t hear you because you don’t speak loud simply text them a message.
