The Life of a Home Mom

My Dream Vacation

My dream vacation is to stay in Italy for about two months and just enjoy everything. Maybe some will say I’ve seen too many movies, I really don’t care this is a dream I have. I am not like most people and want to just visit for a weekend or a week, I want to see the area, take it all in and taste it. In a way you can say I want to be like the girl in Under the Tuscan Sun, just rent a home and possibly end up living there. The people look friendly, they live in a slower time and yeah I realize this may not be reality but sometimes you just want to escape reality and live a dream life. Sure I want to visit all the tourist attractions but I want more than just that. I want to eat at a table in the middle of a field with all the town folks, enjoy an early morning breakfast with them as we all enjoy the view of the sun coming up over the horizon.

I dream of splashing in the waters of Greece as well, I only want to be there for about two weeks unless of course I really love it. But I want to stay in a home and not a hotel (for either country) I want to know the place. I want to find the hidden gems that most tourists won’t see. I want to eat in the diners that we would normally avoid because they look run down but the truth is all the locals know it is the best place to eat in the whole land. I want to ride in a boat and go fishing and toss out my net and see what I bring back. Be brave enough to jump off the cliff like we saw in “Traveling Pants.” I want to have fun and love doing it. I don’t want to stress over anything.

Finally I’d like to go on a cruise ship before coming back to the United States of America and ending my trip. I want to experience things I’d never have the guts to do but I do them anyways because that is what a dream vacation is all about. It is a dream, something you’ve never done before except in your own dreams. I recently had a dream that a reader challenged me to pick 1 thing a month to do that I would normally not do, including overcoming a fear. This really got me thinking, the challenge was to do it all before I turned 40,. That’s when I realized I haven’t put anything out there, I haven’t set a true goal besides getting out of debt. But the truth is I want to dream big, I want to reach for the sky and keep on going. I don’t want to just say I want to go visit Italy. I want to know Italy, inside and out. I want to help in a winery, walk through the grapes, have a garden and experience what it is like to be rained down on in the middle of nowhere, riding a horse through the fields and just sitting back and watching the sunset over the water.

What’s the purpose of dreaming about your dream vacation if you don’t go out of the ordinary? What would your dream vacation be?

  1. I would love to pack my bags and head to Greece!
The best would be to totally submerge yourself in another culture and stay for 6 months.
By then I would either be convinced I needed to move there or I would be homesick.

  2. My bags would be packed in seconds if I could go to Ireland. Its a dream for sure.

  3. I’d love to visit Italy. I’d love to visit all of western Europe really. It’s all so beautiful and ancient. It just has this epic feel about it that you can’t find in the states.

  4. Italy sounds like such a beautiful place, and I’m not only saying that because I’m part Italian. 😉

I think my dream vacation would be somewhere I can snuggle up by a fire while listening to the rain and reading a book for a week straight. Does a place like that exist?

  5. I’d love to go to Italy! I could eat and eat and eat. Right now my dream vacation is Target alone.

Italy, Australia, Ireland, Iceland are my dream destinations. But not anytime soon, I’m content at home making and redoing my home. When the kids leave for the day at school, my vacation begins at home. 🙂

  9. That would be my dream vacation too. I have a friend that just got back from Italy and I am so, so jealous.
