7 Bible Verses to Teach Kids About Patience

Kids have a hard time waiting. Kids in many ways are impatient, we all like to get instant results. If they ask for something they expect it to be handed over immediately because they haven’t learned just yet about patience. Of course, even as adults, we struggle with this very concept.

When adults tell them to wait, littles might find it frustrating, but it’s critical to teach children how to be patient as they become older and avoid tantrums and meltdowns. Patience should be taught to your little ones as soon as possible, but it is never too late to acquire this trait.

The Bible is chock-full of lessons on patience, as it contains many verses. These are just a few instances in which you may display how to apply patience in the following five bible verses. This post talks about how important it is for children to have the virtue of patience and what these specific biblical passages say in detail. The most important thing you can do as a parent or teacher is make time each day to work on exercising patience with your child(ren) and setting a great example. Bible Verses about Patience

Remind children that Jesus is very special to us. One way to show love is by being patient. Jesus tells us to love one another as he loves us. We are called to show patience, tenderness, and compassion in His name. Have them think about different situations and ask what they think He would do in them. Grab a notebook and have them write each of these bible verses about patience. Or put them on index cards and have them stick them where they will come across them daily.

Psalm 37:7 – Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes. No matter what happens, we should always be patient with others. When people do things that bother us or don’t agree with it is hard to deal with but sometimes God asks us to just trust in Him and to be patient.

Ephesians 4:2 – Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. The Bible says that we should be patient and gentle with one another. Wait patiently for the Lord.

Proverbs 14:29 – Those who are patient win the battle, for the Lord will help them be victorious. We must be patient, wait, and pray in order to win. We must keep in mind that when things don’t go our way, God is on our side and he knows what is best for us. This verse reminds us to have faith while waiting for the Lord and pray for patience.

James 5:7 – Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. The agricultural word wisdom of waiting until just the right moment to get the most benefit from your plants is great advice we can all benefit from. I believe this verse can show children how when you wait for something it can be very rewarding but you must have patience.

Proverbs 19:11 – He who is slow to anger has great understanding, But he who is quick-tempered exalts folly. This final bible verse for children about patience speaks to the importance of not getting worked up over little things. Stop and count to 10. Think about the positives instead. Think of how God would want you to respond.

Matthew 7:7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.” This verse talks about how if people keep following and believing Jesus’s teachings then one day their prayers will be answered.

Luke 18:1 “He told them this parable about how they ought always to pray and not give up.” We can never give up on what we are praying to God for. It’s so important that every day we pray and continue to believe and don’t lose hope!

There are many more biblical passages on patience to choose from depending on a child’s age, but these five are excellent starting points. It is important for kids to learn how to be patient. It builds character in kids.

What is patience and why does it matter

Patience is a crucial life skill that we all need to learn how to do in order for us to be successful. Patience isn’t something we’re all born with, so it must be taught to children. Some will learn it faster than others, but it takes practice and understanding. But what exactly does being patient or having patience mean? And why does it matter? I’ll give you some tips on how to teach your kids about patience so that they know why patience is important and how they can use it in their everyday lives.

How can we teach kids about being patient?

Kids learn by example, this means parents are their first teachers for patience. How are you showing your kids patience? For example, when you are waiting for your food at a restaurant, try to put in the best order you can and resist the urge to demand that your server hurry. Try making a game out of waiting, too: see how many items of a certain color they can see.

Patience means waiting –Tell them why it is worth waiting for. Give examples of when it is worth waiting for things. I have 5 kids. I learned that some kids need to be shown what they are doing, while others will understand with a quick definition. It’s really as simple as that! Once you’ve defined patience, you can go on and talk about why it matters. Don’t forget now is the time to teach them how to occupy their wait time when it will be a long while.

Waiting in line game– Take your child to the store and give them something to purchase and ask what they do next and why? Explain sometimes you just have to do it to get what you want without consequences. What can happen if you grab what you want at the store and leave? You can be arrested, it is called stealing. You have to wait in line and take turns paying for what you bought.

Play the Red-Green-Yellow light game with them outside. Talk to them about the reasons some may have to wait for things such as delays (school bus may be delayed because of snow to keep kids safe). Show them how on the road you must wait at a red light because if you go through a red light you will hit other cars.

Patience matters for our Desired Goal – Just like the farmer in James 5:7 if we do not wait and are impatient things we want may not come or if we interrupt them they might not turn out. A great example is the farmer planting his fields from seeds. He must wait through the season to get the fruits of his labor.

– Craft idea: Get a small flower pot to plant a seed so your child can grow a vegetable or a flower and watch it grow. They must have patience for the flower to grow. Have them paint the pot before they put in the soil. Every day have them check on it, instead of being bored have them sing to it or keep a journal to write about the new things it may be doing.

–Make popsicles together– When you make pudding, put it in the ice cube trays and freeze it. Explain to them that if they take it out of the freezer within ten minutes it won’t be frozen. Then ask them if they want to eat it now or wait the desired amount of time for it to be frozen. Try coming up with ideas with them to kill the time.

Showing Patience can give us better solutions– Not always when we jump to a decision-making solution is it the best one. Sometimes having a little patience thinking about a solution gets a much better result. Give a few examples of times they could’ve stopped for a few seconds and thought of a better idea.

-Maybe they are outside waiting for the bus and it just started raining. They needed to stay dry so immediately they run for cover and slip. Ouch! Or if they thought for a moment they might’ve walked back home to get an umbrella. Or they could’ve looked outside before leaving and saw that the clouds were very dark and might need an umbrella and grabbed it.

-Julie needs a green marker for her art project but Nathan is using it. Does she grab it from him? Or does she ask him if she can use it when he is done?

Patience can help us get things done faster- If we’re patient, then we’ll know exactly where we want to go without getting distracted. Just jumping on a road and driving won’t always get us to where we need to go. But if we are patient long enough to get directions or routes to a different path because of construction will help us get there not only faster but the right way. We won’t have to stop and ask for directions because we’ve went the wrong way.

– Give the kids a place they need to get to (an address or the local library). Ask them if they can get there or if they need to get directions first. Or tell them you’d like to make cookies and how they should do it with a recipe or just the way they think it is done?

What’s the bible say about Patience

Patience is an important attribute because it makes us more like Christ as we put our wishes on hold in order to give the desires of those around us. Patience is a reflection of God’s character and is a “fruit” of the Holy Spirit. Just as God has been patient with us, we are called to be patient with others. It requires that we walk humbly with God and that we think about what He has done for us rather than focus on what others have done wrong.

What Happens when we aren’t Patient?

Impatience can lead us to be rude, intolerant of others’ faults, and unable to think kindly of them. We start acting like the world around us instead of God’s children. Patience is an important attribute because it makes us more like Christ as we put our wishes on hold in order to give the desires of those around us “

It’s not easy at first because impatience is natural when we want something and we want it now, but if you keep working with them and being patient with their progress, they will get much better at exercising patience. Two Bible Stories that Teach Patience

I highly recommend reading Abraham and Sarah’s story to your child these two knew God had told them that Abraham would be the father of nations but he was so old and not seeing it. They had patience though and look what happened. Joseph is another great example of patience, many would’ve just given up with his life but he had faith and his faith was rewarded.

How to practice these patience verses in your daily life :

Patience is an essential life skill. In order for us to live a successful, happy, and prosperous life, we must first learn how to be patient with those around us and especially with ourselves so that we can realize the things we are truly capable of doing. These are all great reasons why patience matters, but you should also point out that patience is a huge part of being a follower of Jesus.

• Remember that patience isn’t always easy to have, especially when a situation is frustrating or you want to hurry up and get it over with. But these verses teach us how important it is, so make the effort each day to work on exercising patience in your life.
• When your kids lose their patience, redirect them back to one of these verses. It’s a great opportunity to reinforce a lesson. Have them write down the verses and talk about them.
• Look for ways you can apply the lessons from these verses in your life and talk about them together as a family so they’re examples, not just stories or ideas that everyone knows about but doesn’t follow through on.
• You may want to get a few board games that can teach patience for this. They’ll enjoy spending time with you, and you’ll teach them at the same time in a fun way.

To show how much God loves us, we need to have patience with people and things. We can do this by being patient with them so they can see that he loves us.
