Sun Safety

School ends this week where we live which means the kids will be outside more than they have the rest of the year. Hopefully, this means the sun will begin to shine more and it’ll rain less.

No matter how old we are or how careful we are, that sun will surprise us and we’ll suffer a burn.  Don’t forget that just because it is cloudy outside does NOT mean the sun’s rays aren’t coming down.  Some simple rules to keep your children safe in the sun are:

Here Are Some Brilliant Ideas That Could Seriously Improve Things For Your Family

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post brought to you to add ideas on how to make your summer with your family that much more entertaining. I know many of us try to make those memories that last with our children or spouses here are a few ways to do that. Can you think of some ways?

You might have a really great home life with your partner and family, which is obviously a brilliant thing, but you should never forget that it can always be improved. There might be many activities or endeavours that you’ve never really given too much thought to, but that which could seriously change your life for the better. With that in mind, I’ve spent this morning planning a thorough article to give you some good ideas. You see; sometimes your vision can become blinkered somewhat due to becoming complacent with that which you have, and so it’s always favourable to hear another perspective.

At the end of the day, you don’t have to take any of my suggestions on board, but I guarantee that if you do, you’ll notice the difference immediately. I used to be a bit like you when my family were still together, and I feel like I missed out on so much due to slipping into a routine. This is something I hope to help you with.

So, give me your full attention for the following five minutes, and I’m sure you’ll come away with a whole new way of looking at your family life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting for one second that you don’t have everything you need. I’m just saying you probably aren’t making the most of every opportunity available to you; that’s all.

Move To A New House

Even if you’re more than content with your current property, finding a more suitable one and moving a little out of your comfort zone could be a sensible decision for everyone involved. Although you want your children to be happy and settled, it’s important they also learn at an early age that nothing lasts forever, as this will help them to gain better coping mechanisms for their future life.

Psychologists do say that children who’ve only ever lived in one place with the same people all their lives do tend to suffer more when it comes to making a life for themselves and moving on in their mid 20s. If you think moving house seems like a viable and rational thing to try, you probably want to check out the websites of specialists like http://homestart.net.au/ and their competitors.

Guest Post: Tips for Watching Your Health this Summer

July 3, 2012 By · No Comments

With summer in full swing, it is now the time for increased travel. With the increase in relaxation, adventure and fun in the sun, our health tends to take a backseat. Whether you’re headed to fish on the lake or sit on a sandy beach, Dr. Wayne Andersen, Medical Director for Take Shape for Life (www.tsfl.com) and author of the bestselling book “Dr. A’s Habits of Health,” wants to keep you on track with some of his healthy travel tips.

  • Before you pack, be sure to ask the hotel if they have a gym or pool and bring appropriate clothes to get some exercise. (No excuses! Have some fun and exercise!)
  • Bring healthy snacks for the road / plane. Items like Medifast Crunch Bars are great options because they’re satisfying, portable and contain less sodium and calories than airplane snacks or fast food options. (My kids love trail mixes)
  • Drink lots of water. Any sort of traveling is taxing on the body and you’ll want to keep hydrated. (Dehydration is not something small, it can not only make you sick it can kill you.)
  • Remember that alcohol will let down your defenses and is full of empty calories and carbs! It is best to choose club soda or a diet drink with your meals. (Course water is another great alternative.)
  • Make healthy choices. Some days you may have to have both lunch and dinner out, so make the best of it and choose wisely. (Vacation/summer time are the two most popular time periods most people gain weight.)
  • Order a salad and appetizer for your main meal. It will most likely be the proper portion.
  • Remember to bring your journal to jot down both memories from the trip as well as what you ate to help you keep track of calories. (You never know what types of stories you’ll be able to tell. Who knows you may even write a book.)

Dr. Wayne Andersen is the Medical Director for Take Shape for Life Wellness program. He is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in weight management. Dr. Andersen graduated from University of Florida. Involved with Johns Hopkins in collaborating studies to show the efficacy of meal replacements, Dr. Andersen’s goal is to provide simple, convenient means for people to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. As the chief architect of Take Shape for Life, Dr. Andersen has built an integrated support system that helps people make the necessary changes in their lifestyles to create optimal health.
