I know that probably sounds very confusing but MomCentral recently asked me to head over and visit a new social site called, “Yoursphere.” First I want you to know this is a FREE site. Yoursphere is a great site where kids can go online and talk amongst themselves, it reminds me of a mixture of Ping and Facebook with a bit of Twitter mixed in. The best part is, the parents get to sign their kids up and can watch what they do week by week. Love it?
I signed both of my children up, one is under 13 and must have different guidelines than my 13 year old. But I can still view both accounts. I’ve been watching my son, Soccerboy (age 13) get on and have fun. His favorite part about Yoursphere so far is the contest page.
When he logs in he can check to see if he has any messages or friend request, this is one of the first things he wants to do as soon as he gets home. Once on his homepage he can also view how many credits he has, the credits he can later exchange for gifts from the Gift Gallery. Currently the lowest amount of credits if 450 so he has a little while to go with 91 credits in his account. This doesn’t phase him though as there are a lot of sphere (subjects) that he likes and is having fun with.
Some prizes he could get are: Harry Potter DVD, Karokee Revolution Wii, The Blind Side DVD, and many different types of gift cards.
Currently he is the member of two spheres: TV & Movies and of course every teens favorite thing…Gaming. He can go into the subject areas and join in on any of the discussions there. Reading things such as reviews of games to tips and tricks that’ll help him through it.
He loves to enter all the contests they have here are a few right now: Spring Photo Contest, Who Am I (you guess by looking at a small portion of a picture), Write a Caption, Choose a Nickname, etc. As you can see there are a variety and if you become a winner you get more credits and of course when a prize.
He’s not fond of the blog portion but that’s probably because he hates to blog, he prefers the simple text like the way twitter allows a person to send only so many characters.
Once he logs into his account he can also view most of the updates right there under the “Inside Scoop” which has the following:
Safety Tips: Be Kind to other yoursphere members. Why? Being nice is a good thing. Earlier there was one that read, “Don’t reply to a text you don’t know.”
Did you Know: A lion’s roar can be heard from five miles away.
Question of the week
Dreams for your Future: Scholarship
American Idol Connection
You’ll also see your Circle of Friends (like myspace), feed of all things going on in your groups (spheres), your friend activity and finally any new photos your friends have uploaded. Sound like fun?
I’ll update later in the week as we explore new things in Yoursphere.
Have you signed your kids up for Yoursphere yet? If you’d like to sign you or your child up here is a referral code to help you out: YSMC-0060
