Energizer Weather Preparedness Kit Giveaway

Well as soon as the weather decides it is finally time to give up the harsh winter we will be facing storm season.  I’ll never forget my first time living in North Carolina and being in a trailer that shook every time thunder struck, those were some very scary times especially when we knew a tornado was possible. Of course it wasn’t until we moved out to Missouri that I would actually deal with the horrible sounds of a siren going off and knowing more than likely one was headed in our direction. Now the hard part was on these nights when we’d lose electricity, with four kids at home it was important to have security for them and being in the dark is never something that feels safe.

The great people over at Blick & Staff Communications has teamed up with Energizer and have made some Emergency “Energizer Weather Preparedness Kits” for those of you that want something that’ll come in handy the night of a big storm. This isn’t just for those that live in an area where there are tornadoes, this is for everyone that could ever lose electricity. How many times have you been left in the dark? Sure candles are nice, but only if you have them in stock or know where the lighter/matches are. Not to mention candles can easily cause fires if one tips over, is forgot about, etc.  I was sent one of these kits and inside is:

-  a red drawstring bag that I can grab by the strings and dash downstairs to safety in a rush.
-  battery-operated radio with the batteries needed
-  flashlight
-  back up power kit
-  cell phone charger
-  extra batteries

What to Include in Your Emergency Power Kit

  • Battery-powered radio or crank radio, to keep your family apprised of current weather-related news.
  • Plenty of extra batteriesEnergizer® Ultimate Lithium andEnergizer® MAX® batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9-volt) provide long-lasting power before, during and after the storm. Lithium batteries have a long storage life, perform well in extreme temperatures and are perfect for use in LED flashlights and other high-tech devices, while Energizer® MAX® batteries are an ideal power source for standard flashlights and lanterns.
  • Flashlight for every member of the family. Use flashlights instead of candles when the power goes out.  Energizer® Weatheready™ lights feature long-lasting LED technology. With versatile flashlights and area lights, the Weatheready™line is designed to keep your family out of the dark.
  • Battery-powered cell phone charger, to help keep the lines of communication open. Energizer Energi To Go® power packs help keep cell phones charged.
  • Extra specialty batteries. Your health is your most important asset.  Specialty batteries power critical health devices like hearing aids and blood glucose and blood pressure monitors.

“An emergency power kit can offer peace of mind to families caught in spring storms,” said Jim Olsen, Vice President of Marketing for EnergizerNorth America.  “Through the Energizer Keep Safe. Keep Going® program, we are reminding families to stay prepared for blackouts by preparing their own back-up power kits so they are ready for power outages during whatever type of severe weather situations that may head their way.”

I don’t know about you, but I like to know everything is in one place which makes finding it that much easier. Storms are unpreventable but having a bag full of items you’ll need definitely helps. My bag is carefully placed on the staircase, ready to be grabbed at any given moment.  Currently we are having a storm, this makes me feel better knowing where it is.

Avoid using land line telephone unless it’s a true emergency in a thunderstorm

  2. barbara wright says:

I really couldn’t find anything on their site about thunderstorms, so I read about hurricanes instead. They said not to use your phone, which is also true for thunderstorms, so wherever the thunderstorm information was, this suggestion was probably there :-)

I live in Kansas so when I hear a tornado is coming we head to the basement with a radio, flashlight, and water.
