Day 6: Must Read Tips and Tutorials For Bloggers

Today’s lesson, err that should be Day 6’s lesson was to have us read 27 informative posts from some very well-known bloggers: Darren of course, Seth Godin, Jeremy Schoemaker, Yaro Starak, Liz Strauss*, Maki (DoshDosh), Daniel Scocco, Chris Brogan, Chris Garrett and Rand Fishkin.  The goal was to tell us one thing we learned from any or all of these bloggers. One thing I didn’t learn but already knew is these are the people to follow, they know how to get your blog going and how to keep it at the top.

I picked Liz Strauss, no not just because she’s a woman but because I’ve been following her blog for some time and I could just relate to the post. What post? “10 Reasons Readers Don’t Leave Comments” which she actually went out and did a survey asking various bloggers why they did and did not leave a comment, tallied them together and got the answers.  First, how many of you have ever did a poll on your blog and revealed the results later? This is one thing readers love to do. (just a thought)

One reason that caught my attention was “you rarely respond to comments” which tells me no matter what we should always respond. Even if it is at the end of the day or week, respond to those that have replied to your post.

A few others were basically don’t feel bad if no one commented, maybe you wrote something exceptional or something they agreed with so they didn’t see the point in replying. What were the going to say, “Good job. Great post. I agree.” No way. Others don’t like commenting when they have to break through all the barriers, sure it keeps spam out but sometimes it keeps your readers out. I know there have been times I went to leave a comment but I had to belong to the blog or the host so I surfed away.

There were ten reasons so feel free to hop on over and read the rest but these three really hit me because I’ve either experiences those types of posts or thought about it. What keeps you from commenting?

Feel free to just….
