Old Spice Welcome to Smellcome Giveaway #Scentresponsibly

February 24, 2014 By · 65 Comments

Disclosure: This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Old Spice. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine and the two boys, err one boy (hehe).

My oldest loves helping me out when it comes to reviews, he’s the one that can always make me laugh when I’m taking pictures in the store of a product. Imagine how it felt to hear him agree to actually doing a video with me for this review. EEEeeek, I could only wonder what he would come up with when we were asked to try out the new Welcome to Manhood’s Smellcome package for the #scentresponsibly campaign. I must admit that he is one that loves to shower, shave and spray on the good stuff. But he had recently ran out of his normal type and I wasn’t 100% sure if he’d agree to wear “Old Spice” as he had told me, “Isn’t that for “older” men?” In other words he thought it was for the older generation and not the older teens to younger 20s. haha

We got our package and we all gathered around to see what came in this suitcase addressed to him. I mean it isn’t every day you get a review in a small traveling case. Man, I swear everyone wants me to realize he is graduating next year….trust me people I get it. No need to send a suitcase. But inside was three spray bottles of deodorant in scents: Bearglove, Swagger and Fiji. I really liked the Fiji on him. Inside was a certificate of Achievement “Smellcome to Manhood” which of course he gave his 6 year old brother, Little A, who was very excited since he is also in the video. Inside the package was also a video “Over the Top” with Sylvester Stallone which the kids immediately watched, duct tape (which he says can solve almost any problem or fix something), Unruly Paste (for the hair) and a book “The are of Manliness” by Brett and Kate McKay.

I don’t know about you but I remember the “older version” of Old Spice, you know the stick red deodorant that smelled just like my grandpa or dad, but now they also have these cans they can spray on them. Love it, definitely new age stuff that the younger generation can feel better about. No more looking like something your parents would have used. Now it can be “cool” for teens to wear it.

Stay up to date with all of Old Spice’s latest products by visiting their homepage, Twitter, Youtube and or Facebook page. Don’t forget to watch the video and let my boys know what you thought. I mean it isn’t every day that a 6 year old becomes a 16 year old. There are three new collections, the Red Zone, The Wild Collection and the Fresh Collection.

Old Spice is wanting everyone to be aware of this and they’re allowing one of my readers the chance to win a package like the one pictured above.  See if your son will post a video for fun. My boys loved doing it. My son’s received one of their own, and split it up.  This prize package includes the following:
  •  Old Spice Re-fresh Body Spray – “Scent Responsibly” and smell like a man, not a middle school locker room.
  • Old Spice Branded Earbuds – James Blunt never sounded so manly.
  • “Over the Top” DVD – Dominate at arm wrestling like Lincoln Hawk, without having to go to truck driving school.
  • Duct Tape – Fix anything on the planet.
  • Old Spice Branded Wood Flash Drive – Important Old Spice files everyone should memorize (Old Spice“Scent Responsibly” education video, Informational Infographic, Fact Sheet, etc.)
  •  Art of Manliness Book – Becoming a man is an art and a science. It was much safer to send a paperback book than a Bunson Burner.
  • Smellcome to Manhood Certificate – A made-up diploma to add to your LinkedIn profile.

Our Review:

This is a sweet Christmas tale, Journey to the Christmas Star, is about a little village that is overtaken by darkness.  After the death of the King’s wife and the disappearance of his little girl after she runs into the woods and never returned he banishes the Christmas Star. Little did he know his own right hand man had a major part in his little girl’s absence and was working with a witch that would forever keep him childless. But somewhere deep inside the forest is a 14 year old orphan girl named Sonja that is desperate to get out of her own home, one day she does and her “friends” try robbing the King’s castle of their food.

Sonja refuses to steal and when she’s about to be tossed in to the dungeon one of the King’s men agrees she tried stopping her friends from doing it. She pledges to the king that she will find the Christmas Star and off she goes into the forest to find it. Along the way, she will encounter and befriend enchanted gnomes, a bear and even Father Christmas himself. She discovers the secrets of the good/bad children, even finds the Christmas Star and learns it was never missing but the anger inside the King has kept him from seeing it. He must discover his little girl and she must find him for the doom to be lifted off the village. But it all must be done before Christmas for the curse to be lifted. Will Sonja be able to return in time?

This is a story of commitment, learning about yourself and going that extra mile to help someone out.

Get Ready for the Holidays with Christmas Tree Lights Etc

November 11, 2013 By · 1 Comment

It’s that time of year again. You know when people love to decorate their homes in Christmas lights, outdoor winter displays and have their Christmas trees all decked out in fun and lights for everyone to see. To me, this is what makes everything feel like Christmas season, I love going driving through the town and checking out all the homes that have their lights on. Last year was the first year I didn’t see many homes displaying lights, I am really hoping to see a lot of homes this year with them. But living in the desert I’m not so sure we’ll see that.

Ever since I can remember, we have always had artificial trees in my home, even growing up. Only thing I miss out on is the smell the real one makes, but thankfully not the mess. I love all things Christmas, which means the Christmas trees, Christmas decorations especially the Christmas lights and outdoor displays you find around town.  My current tree is a cheap one I bought at the store, however my favorite would have to be what is known as the Colorado Pine.  I love the big bottom trees that get smaller at the top, but I also enjoy having a prelit one so I don not go crazy trying to string it myself.  I have discovered a 6.5ft Pine at  Christmas Lights Etc for $459 , where you can actually order yourself one today and get a coupon code for 11% off your order because of Veteran’s Day. I love that you can see exactly what the tree and limbs look like before purchasing. Unlike those prelit ones you buy in the store inside a box. Never turns out looking like the picture on the outside, but these have multiple shots and this tree has the extra bonus of pincone clusters at the tips of the branches.

Coupon Code: VETERANS (ends today)

To me, there is just something magical about Christmas lights. I love decorating inside and out. Who is with me on that? I typically set up my Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, which means I need to start figuring out what all we need to buy for the house. I know I will want LED lights for outside because of the way they glow, but I also want garland to string around my porch. The Garland lights (which I had not even thought of) will probably look best on my porch and then it’ll be easy to take down after the holidays. Garland lights come in either LED, clear, colored or twinkle and are 6’ beaded garlands to 18’ for the larger porches. I think the lights of a pre-lit Christmas tree is enough on the tree but I’ll still need something for my windows. How much do you decorate?

Guest Post: Introducing Favado

October 17, 2013 By · No Comments

(Disclosure: This is a guest post, I am not being compensated in any form.)

start_saving_with_favadoI like to consider myself to be a pretty financially responsible person. I am always looking for new ways to spend less on things that you have to buy that way I can keep more of my money to spend on the things I want.

Once area that I am able to see the most savings is in the area of grocery shopping.

We can’t get away from buying food, but we can learn ways to spend less.

Here is the 3 step process I used to use to make sure I was spending the least amount of money on my grocery bill each week.

  1. Create a Menu Plan. This is the best way to know what you will need to buy each week. Having a menu keeps me from buying those unnecessary things that catch my attention when I am cruising the grocery store aisles.
  2. Check the Store Ads. I like to check more than one store to see what they are offering on sale that week. I make my shopping list based on what I need and who has the best price this week.I also make sure to check all of my local drug stores. They carry food too, and lots of times they have THE best prices.
  3. Gather your coupons. Once I know what I will buy, I look for coupons that will work on those items to save even more of my money.

This has been my process for saving at the stores for years now. It works!

But, it takes a lot of time and effort to plan and get your coupons together.

There is a brand new Grocery Savings Tool available that can help you save up to 70% off using nothing more than your cell phone.

You choose your stores and enter your grocery list, and it tells you where to go for the lowest price at that time. It will also let you know if there are coupons available so you don’t have to spend your time searching yourself.

Use that time you have waiting for your kids to get out of school or after school classes to plan your grocery list.

Favado is a mobile savings app that helps shoppers stop overspending by notifying them when their favorite items are on sale.

Favado has money saving experts who hand select sales and coupons every week in more than 65,000 grocery stores and drugstores nationwide to enable discovery of the best deals for savings up to 70% on everyday items.

Favado’s Features Include:

  1. Price comparisons for the best deals at your local stores.
  2. Search for deals on what you need.
  3. Personalize the deals you want to see, so you never miss a deal on the products you love.
4. Shopping list with available coupons and sharing options.
  5. Complete sale details, including sale prices and and available coupons that reveal the deepest discount.
  6. Hand selected sale information, inputted weekly by Top Grocery Store Experts.

It is completely FREE today!

$50 Giveaway

The Fat Cat Beer Company, Mystery Shopping Teacher, and twelve other awesome bloggers have joined together to give you the chance to win some cool cash! But before we get to the cash part, let me tell you a little about the Fat Cat Beer Company.

The Fat Cat Beer Company is a newer beer company that creates quality craft beer. The company is dedicated to providing a worthy handcrafted drinking experience. They have flavors like pale ale, lager, Confession IPA, and even a wheat beer called Sultans of Wheat. The Sultans of Wheat sounds pretty interesting to me. Here’s what Fat Cat Beer Company says about it.

It uses a Belgian wheat and can be drunk year round. It features the freshest hops and grains, with a hint of coriander and orange peel, leaving you with a sweet and spicy finish.

You can read more about the different types of beer that they offer by clicking here (if you’re 21 or older, please).

The Confession IPA beer is one that is newly launched. It’s supposed to be awesome to pair with a steak! Who doesn’t love a good steak and ice cold beer? And add a baked potato with butter and chives- seasoned just right? I wish I had that right now!

As I mentioned earlier, this is a company that is fairly new. They are expanding through the US currently, but right now they are in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, and California. If you are a fan of craft beer, you want this to come to your state! Trust me on this one!

What you can do in the meantime is enter to win a prize from Fat Cat! You can win either a prize worth $50 OR $25! One person will win $50 to Amazon or Paypal and another will win $25 to Amazon or Paypal. Share with your friends and you can all have the chance to win. This giveaway is open to residents of the U.S. age 21 or older. I will randomly draw one winner using the rafflecopter widget. Get your entries in!
