Allergies Can Happen Anytime….

allergies

I don’t always deal with allergies, Antonio (now 18) discovered he was allergic to turkey at age 3. It took twice to figure it out. Once immediately after Thanksgiving and the next day right after eating turkey leftovers. It was easy to figure out. We decided to cut turkey out of our family forever, well at least until he was 18 and knew better. So imagine my surprise all these years later when Little A (age 8) came home from the school covered in hives. I knew what hives looked like but it had been so many years. By the end of the night it was all over, I watched over him all night long, that was Monday right after lunch at school.

Tuesday I kept him home, it was still growing and now even on the bottom of his feet. He was itchy and it was driving him nuts. Pharmacist said it was a very bad reaction to something he’d had. With some benedryl it slowly went away, but it would strike again shortly after eating lunch. He’d go back and forth throughout the day, finally he slept. Phew. I feel horrible for him, as a parent I just want to take it away.

I sent him to school this morning with just a few dots, hoping that if he went to school and didn’t have a reaction I would know it was at home. I called the nurse she said he was fine. By 10 am the teacher sent me an email, he was okay. Right after lunch the nurse called, come get him, it is all over his face/ears/mouth/body. Took him to ER, hives. Yes, he’s allergic to something but not sure what. For now I’m taking out peanut butter, that is the one thing on all three days he had. He’s had PB&J for as long as I can remember. But upon reading I’ve discovered allergies can happen any time, even if they ate it days prior. Wow. Has this ever happened to you? We are going to keep a food diary just in case and take out PB for at least a week. If he goes to school tomorrow and has a reaction it is time for scheduling the allergy test as my little boy is simply not doing this every day. Suggestions?  Stories you’ve gone through please?!?

Besides the fact I have been watching my oldest pack and repack his bags which means sometimes I begin to get that knot that grows ever so slightly when you know your bird is about to leave the nest. Yes, I said bird, but ya’ll know what I mean. Every time I see him pack his bag I get a sadness but a happiness that grows over me. See it isn’t like I’m just releasing him to a world unknown, in fact he will be leaving California with his dad and moving in with him until he has enough to move out on his own …. if he chooses to do so.

Dine at Denny’s With the Penguins

I live in a small town, so small we really only have two main roads. Denny’s is literally straight down the road from my house, about a 10 minute drive, which means we go there as often as we can. Hey, with five kids and myself it can get awfully expensive. Somehow I had not realized there is a secret to eating at Denny’s….go on Tuesday because kids eat FREE. haha. “Kids eat free 4-10PM on Tuesdays at Denny’s.” Of course ask your server because you do have to have certain things to go with this, ie, I think it is one adult meal per free kid meal. It worked out great for me because it was myself, SoccerBoy (18) and BalletGirl (14) which is the three adult meals with BabyGirl, Little A and Nicoli (ordered from the kids menu). I love a place that caters to my kids and our servers are the best! They know to always bring my youngest his pancakes and a different plate for the remainder of the Jr. grand slam.  The menus have so many healthy choices from yogurt, veggie sticks, sliced bananas to salads.

Old Spice Welcome to Smellcome Giveaway #Scentresponsibly

February 24, 2014 By · 65 Comments

Disclosure: This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Old Spice. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine and the two boys, err one boy (hehe).

My oldest loves helping me out when it comes to reviews, he’s the one that can always make me laugh when I’m taking pictures in the store of a product. Imagine how it felt to hear him agree to actually doing a video with me for this review. EEEeeek, I could only wonder what he would come up with when we were asked to try out the new Welcome to Manhood’s Smellcome package for the #scentresponsibly campaign. I must admit that he is one that loves to shower, shave and spray on the good stuff. But he had recently ran out of his normal type and I wasn’t 100% sure if he’d agree to wear “Old Spice” as he had told me, “Isn’t that for “older” men?” In other words he thought it was for the older generation and not the older teens to younger 20s. haha
