Mamavation Monday

January 31, 2011 By · 4 Comments

This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by Earth Footwear. The question of the week is : What does “wellness” mean to you?

To me “wellness” means a lot of different things. For starters wellness means being well, not being sick. Last year and the year prior I got sick twice, both times they were over 7 weeks long and I never won’t to go through that again. But wellness also means you are taking care of your body and mind. This is where it becomes hard, as adults we tend to go through life and rush which of course means sometimes we don’t think about what we are putting inside our bodies. Running late, well swing through the drivethru and pick something up. But eventually, it all catches up to you and that’s what happened to me.

January 1st I decided that I wanted wellness for more than one reason. Kids, health and to live longer. I didn’t want to become another statistic in life, I want to live life to the fullest, to be able to enjoy chasing after my kids and to be healthy enough that I end up playing with my grandchildren long in the future. Wellness also means prepping the mind. No longer will I allow my mind to think the negative thoughts, instead now when I look in a mirror I see me, a woman that is losing weight and showing a lot of determination.

I’ve lost some weight so now it is time to focus on other parts of my wellness. For a great group with support you should head on over to Mamavation Monday and check out the other links.

Movies & Eating Out

January 31, 2011 By · 1 Comment

This weekend we wanted to do something as a family. As ya’ll know I have been watching what I eat and working out, just about every day of this month. So it was time to toss in some fun with that new lifestyle change I was working on. We decided to take the kids to Logan’s and then to a movie. They had no clue what was in store for them so it was exciting all at the same time. When they saw we were pulling into Logan’s they said, “But mom can’t eat this, there is nothing healthy.” I couldn’t help but laugh, because I knew they were not only watching out for me but I’d get to surprise them with a “Yes they do have healthy food here, in fact they have a menu just for me.”

The wait wasn’t that long, but the kids did grab a few peanuts to snack on while they waited. While these are suppose to be healthy for you there is one thing I should mention, I will never eat a peanut in a barrel, especially right beside the bathroom doors. I’m not going into details but you can use your imagination. I prefer the kids didn’t but they always somehow grab a handful so I didn’t say anything this trip. Here’s a picture of BalletGirl digging into the peanuts.

Now just to let you know, if you are watching your weight or how many calories go into your body Logan’s does have a “Healthy Nut” menu which has meals (not just one item) under 550 calories. I always get fish so I got the Mesquite salmon, last time I had the mesquite tilapia. Which both meals come with a bowl of steamed broccoli and a house salad.

Once we were done we went searching for a movie theater we’d seen was only a buck. Kids quickly figured out what we were doing as we got out of the car and started walking up. They were playing “Megamind” which was not something I really wanted to see but knew hubby and the younger ones wanted too, instead I opted to see “The Next Three Days” with SoccerBoy. He likes those scary, intense type of movies so it sounded good. I highly recommend “The Next Three Days” it’ll be a movie you don’t want to bring the younger ones, make sure you pee as you don’t want to miss a single moment of this movie. Take a peek at the trailer below:

By the way after the movie it was time to eat, but I had the hubby drop me off so I could eat my Lean Cuisine for dinner. They went to eat at Golden Corral which I wasn’t even going to try to find something to eat there. I think I’ve done really good, this weekend was fun and shows you can have fun with your family and eat out or even go to the movies without worrying about calories. By the way I didn’t eat or drink anything at the movies.

Getting #projectready for the Science Fair

January 31, 2011 By · 1 Comment

BalletGirl (she’s in 5th grade) is getting #projectready for her very first Science Fair this year. Unlike her brother’s science fair last year this will be a mandatory fair, every child in 5th grade that attends school must do a project as part of over half their grade. So as you can see this one is very important. This meant really thinking of something that she could experiment with and not something mom had done in the past as a kid because I wanted her to do it. (so no turning flowers different colors) There are a few sites that could’ve given her some ideas such as the Society for Science which gives some great ideas and many others.

But she quickly came up with an idea and was stuck on it no matter what we read. So she was going to need to go shopping for products, which we did but this weekend it was about making her project. Last weekend we did a trial run just to see if it would work, which was a good thing because there were some errors which taught her a lesson…always watch what you are cooking, even if it is crayons.

Yes, her project is about crayons and how you can change a solid into a liquid and back into a solid. Her exact question is which will melt faster:  A group of multiple cookie cutters full of crayons at 400 degrees or just one cookie cutter full of crayons at 200 degrees. Tough one right? The result may surprise you. But I won’t reveal it. Check out her whrrl on it. (she loves comments)

Wanting to Be Fit!

January 27, 2011 By · 1 Comment

Evening everyone, as night falls I feel energized and more alive than I have felt in a long time. Why? I don’t know maybe it’s losing 13 pounds this month or just exercising all the time. I plan on continuing my journey long past the point in which I hit my healthy weight. Since January 1st I’ve changed up my entire routine, from what I eat and drink to how I exercise. Before this year I was fat and hated it but didn’t do much to stop it. I ate the bad foods and swallowed up all those horrible drinks I shouldn’t have been having.

First 2 weeks in January

What do I do now? The treadmill, walking 35-40 minutes outside, exercise dvds, the ab gym, etc.

I drink healthy now, most water at least 4 (16oz) bottles of water a day and a green tea or two. Most of my meals are Lean Cuisines or fruits and vegetables, on occasion I will have fish (salmon or tilapia). All in all I feel great about myself and the way I’m beginning to look. To me this is a lifestyle change, something I want to do no matter what, it isn’t just a thing I’m doing but my life. I want to be able to live past 40, I want to be able to see my kids grow up and have kids of their own. I don’t want to get diabetes if I don’t have to get it or anything else in my genes.

I will walk in the snow

No matter how cold

Tonight I’m writing this post to hopefully encourage Team 4all that I would make a terrific team member for them. Team 4all is all about living right, exercising and getting out there and looking good doing the stuff you enjoy doing. No, I’m not a skinny model, in fact I’m far from it but I think I have what it takes to be a part of this wonderful idea. I could show that even those of us overweight and trying to get into shape can look good in the outfits. That it takes pure determination to get to where we want to be. I know that losing weight and exercising isn’t always easy, I know that there is pain and sweat but I’m willing to do it and know that you all can do it too, if we just put ourselves out there and do it. I began the #31days challenge for Collective Bias to make sure I could start to lose weight but it ended up meaning so much more to me. I’m loving my walks, I can’t wait for my kids to get on their bus in the morning so I can hop on my treadmill and walk and I get excited every time I hear about a new exercise dvd someone mentions.

I will get in shape!

Being fit doesn’t just mean being tiny and able to run, being fit means you have what it takes to be able to run/walk/hit a ball, etc. That you aren’t a quitter and are ready to join in on the fun. To be able to chase your kids without losing your breathe, compete in a 5K if you want to do just that or even play a game of softball/kick ball with your family or friends. To be fit means you are healthy and not about to fall over dead because you can’t even run/walk around the block. To be fit means adding more years to your life.

So yes, I want to be a part of this team and share with my readers and everyone out there what they have to offer, about the new products they have coming out and to be able to show them off. What do you think? Do I deserve to be a team member?
